Reel update

Ive added a direct link on the right to my CV, Reel and Linked In now.

And i just wanted to drop this here for now. I'm still hunting down Higher Resolution footage from Football superstars, unfortunately it seems incredibly hard to find.

Quick update

WOW. Its been over a month!? Time flies when Real life kicks in. Most people who are even looking at this know how works been, So good luck and all the best to those that need it. 99% of you don't need it. Onwards and upwards!!

Ive done a fair bit of work on this little fella when i can, although due to work, the amount of time Ive had to play about has really decreased.. I think I'm up to two or three revisions on the modelling so far at least since i last posted. The gears and side panel have been re-worked a little, the expressions for the Gear ratio's and Springs got tidied up a bit.

Decided i didn't like the Legs too much, and started re-working them from this.

To this. I added some Suspension to the Feet, I'm still not 100% sure i love the look. It needs some more love, some more cables, pipes, gauges.

A closer shot. Its getting there (slowly)

I've a few HD video's done of this now, getting Vimeo to actually NOT destroy them on import seems a different matter..

Ive currently got Premier Crunching through a render, ill post that up tomorrow i think.

A couple of WIP playblasts.

A cross section of the walker from below moving, all done with expressions at the moment

A Transformers rig i did at Monumental. Animatable as a Car or Robot, or inbetween. Was for a Facebook game that fell through.

Quick walker update.

Its been a VERY odd week, so I've not had much time to focus on this. Ive been working on some of the smaller details when Ive had the chance, mostly getting the boiler and bellows in and rigged up.

Thursday, 22 March 2012

Ive been a busy little bee the last few days. I started to add a bit more detail here and there, and started on working with the chassis shape a little more. I threw in a small boiler to power the thing at the back, and some of the plumbing for it.

I think the next step will be to start on the legs armatures, and the pulley system for them i think.

Here's a couple more WIP renders from lunch.

Wednesday, 21 March 2012

Started fleshing out the centre Gear's and pulley mechanism a little more from the early block out. The main gears are all hard body's still, the smaller gears, piston and pulleys are being driven by expressions linked to them. (The pulley chains are all done with some Wire deformer's and sellotape.)

The Hard body dynamics are slow as hell at this stage. Im going to look into using the new Maya 'Bullet' Dynamics soon as i get the chance. (A friend here told me it runs ALOT faster than the normal dynamics in maya.)

(My vimeo's maxed out for the week, so I'll post up some "movie magic" on Sunday.)

Walker WIP

Here's the first-pass block of my little walker. Hes driven totally by Hard body Dynamics and a set of IK joints. There are no key frames or set driven keys on anything BUT the main axle at the moment.

To do: He needs a modelling pass now the rigs almost done. Id like to explore a steam punk, Brass and Walnut, kind of style.  Certainly a lot more delicate than whats showing up so far.

(All done from Maya 2.0 viewpoint and linked from Vimeo. Any helping tips on getting this stuff from Maya-->here and looking more sexy is REALLY welcome. I've no idea how to turn things like 'loop on' automatically for example.)

For the moment, your can right click on the videos and choose "Loop On"
